On Screen Connect
On Screen Connect is only available in True Connect Pro.

In addition to allowing a user directly control the device using the PC mouse and keyboard, True Connect also provides the facility of allowing the user to control the device via a window on the PC.  The On Screen Connect feature provides a synchronized image of what is displayed on the device screen.  In addition you can use the PC mouse and keyboard to control the device the same way you would control the device directly.

The On Screen Connect feature is useful if the device you have does not have a cradle for example.  In addition if you use Bluetooth to connect through ActiveSync you can use on the On Screen Connect feature without the phone being visible, in your pocket for example.  Finally using the On Screen Connect feature you can increase the size of the device image by a factor of 2 or even display it as full screen.  Full-screen mode is excellent should you need to present something on your device to a large audience.

To turn on On Screen Connect ensure the device is connected to ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Centre.  Next using the PC, right-click on the True Connect icon and select the On Screen Connect menu option.  If you are unable to see the True Connect icon in the SystemTray then you may need to use the button on the toolbar to show the hidden icons

Depending on the current settings, turning on On Screen Connect will result in a tab appearing over the PC monitors current drag edge.

Hovering the mouse over this tab will result in the On Screen Connect window appearing.  This window will stay active for as long as the mouse pointer is over the window.  Moving the mouse pointer away from this window will result in the window sliding off the edge of the monitor and the tab reappearing.

Once the On Screen Window is visible the mouse and keyboard can be used to control the device using this window.  For example clicking on the Start menu on the On Screen Connect window will activate the Start menu on the device.  The On Screen Connect window will keep in sync with the device.

Once activated the On Screen Connect window can be dragged away from the edge.  Dragging the window away from the active edge will result in the On Screen Connect window being permanently active.  To hide the On Screen Connect window simply drag it back to the side of the screen, you will notice the window will snap back to the middle of the chosen edge.

The On Screen Connect window can be snapped back to any edge of the monitor.  The edge chosen will become the active drag edge when the On Screen Connect feature is turned off.

The On Screen Connect window offers a number of useful toolbar options.  The following describes these toolbar options in more detail:

Toolbar Button Action
Pin   As detailed above the On Screen Connect window will automatically hide itself if the mouse pointer is moved off this window.  Using the Pin icon will prevent the On Screen Connect window hiding when the mouse pointer is moved off the On Screen Connect window.  Pressing the Pin icon a second time will return the window into an unpinned state meaning the window will once again hide itself when the mouse pointer is moved off the On Screen Connect window.

It should be noted that if the window is dragged away from the dockable edge then the Pin option becomes inactive as by definition the window is permanently active until it is re-docked to the monitors edge.

Magnification X2   The X2 toggle button will expand the devices image by a magnification of two.  This option is particularly useful if you are using high resolution monitors and your device screen is quite small.

Press the X2 button a second time will return the device image back to its original size.

Screen Capture The Camera icon when pressed will take a screen capture of the devices screen and place the image in the PC's clipboard.

NOTE: When taking a screen capture the X2 or Full-Screen states are ignored and the device screen is captured as its actual size.

True Connect Settings   The Tabs icon opens the True Connect Settings panel.  This panel is also available by right-clicking on the True Connect icon in the PC's SystemTray.
Full Screen The Full-Screen option is excellent for demonstrating applications running on your device.  Pressing the Full-Screen button will expand the size of the devices image to display full-screen on the PC monitor.

To return from Full-Screen mode back to the regular On Screen Display window press the  icon in the top right of the Full-Screen window.
